Well to my amazement, he showed me all the evidence i needed - a blocked pvc valve, sludging down the pvc hose and the manifold etc, so its obvious that in many cases - not all- that the long life oil (supposed to last 25000km) makes no difference either as the oil WILL sludge. I' m taking my fight up to BMW as i have so much hard concrete

Location: OC - SoCal. iTrader: ( 0) PCV/CCV failure - Easy Fix. My car is a 2012 F30 335i (N55), it has about 99,300 miles. After 7-8 years, the PCV/CCV on these cars will usually fail. The failure is due to the thin orange plastic membrane under the PCV/CCV cap, which is at the top of the Engine Valves Cover. PCV = Pressure Crankcase Valve.

After reading several theads on this forum I decided to investigate the CCV and associated system. I found a technical bulletin (Not BMW) suggesting that proper crankcase vacuum is a method to determine if the CCV is working. The bulletin states that the vacuum should read from 3 to 6 inches of water at idle. camshaft sensor exhaust side (delphi) Since getting the smoke test which showed little results I've replaced the following. Intake manifold gaskets (erling) Throttle body gasket (bmw) ICV grommet (bmw) Fuel tank breather line on the intake manifold (13907557924) (bmw) Full cvv replacement (previous owner did in 2014, ~30000 miles ago, so did it markusmarkus · #10 · May 10, 2019. Deleting the CCV without adding “someplace” for the “oily mayonnaise” to go is a recipe for disaster imho. Both the CCV and catch can solutions exist because all engines’ crankcase emit oily vapors. Years ago that oily vapor was merely dumped into the atmosphere. Benefits: Aluminum Valve cover: - less chance of warping, cracks etc. - less chance of VCG leaks. CCV maintenance ease. - CCV built into VC. - no more ridiculous contorting and removal of half the engine bay to get at CCV. - One outlet pipe to intake - simplified catch can setup.

Cleaned the ICV (helped a little with the speed of the idle, increased it a little bit, but that's it), changed the O2 sensor, but the problem remains. The cause as found by my mechanic is a vacuum leak from the throttle body gasket in

In this episode I show you how to fit a ccv (crank case breather) to my m54b30 engine. This guide will also work with the m52tu.I would like to thank Febi Bil

In BMWs, there are two specific problems with the CCV that have appeared on a more frequent basis than normally expected: water/oil clogs and cracked or torn hoses. Water condensation can be a problem for some BMW engines, particularly in cold weather conditions. The condensate forms inside the CCV valve and mixes with the oil droplets.

It DOES need to be replaced every 80k miles or so with a good quality part, preferably a genuine CCV valve. Nathan at Nathan DIY is a bit of hack. He cuts many corners, and often doesn't keep cars for long. Many people complain of catch can solutions. the M56 valve cover IS a decent replacement for the stock M54 CCV Hi Guys,Today I show you how to replace the Crankcase Breather Pipe. Having changed mine, the throttle response is so much better and I'm also getting better
Rough idling could be a dirty idle control valve (icv, likely), a failing crankshaft position sensor (cps, unlikely) or a bad/dirty throttle position sensor (tps, also unlikely). The cps's resistance should be tested when the engine is cold and when it is hot, to see if it is in range according to its specs.

If you do a lot of short trips (causing condensation under the valve cover not to evaporate) I'd say yes.
